Free-write

For my paper and presentation, I am bouncing back and forth between two different general topics. One being the “Dear Miss Breed” letters and the other being Jack Blair’s letters from the Forties Project. I have unsure of what specifically I want to focus on because I don’t fully understand the guidelines of the project but I am doing my best to brainstorm topics.

As for the “Dear Miss Breed” letters, I was thinking I would focus on Miss Breed herself or on other librarians that made a difference in the world. Whether that be with kids, communities, or just their own library in general. I was also thinking I could pick a few of the children to focus on and talk about how having that connection with books and Miss Breed helped them through their hard times at the camps.

For the Forties Project letters, I wanted to focus on Jack Blair and possibly a couple of the other alumni. I was thinking that I could talk about what each of the soldiers have in common or what is different about them, as well as talk about the letters that were written in response to them. Specifically how they wanted to be kept in the loop about happenings on campus. I am also wondering if I could focus part of my writing on the dynamics on campus during the war or the whole system of how it works when you are drafted during schooling.
